History
  • In 1999-2000, Sanctuary Magazine and Britannia Industries visited schools across the country to show a tiger film and collect one million signatures in support of the tiger.
  • School children in 700 schools in 14 cities were taught about the importance of saving the tiger.
  • The Limca Book of Records certified this as the world's largest 'Save the Tiger' scroll.
  • The Prime Minister wrote a letter of congratulations to the children, and stated that "the tiger is an indication of the environmental health of India… protecting India's tiger forests will not only save this animal, it will also ensure the country's economic stability."
  • 15,000 children in Mumbai took part in an emotionally charged 'Kids for Tigers' event on Children's Day, November 14, 2000.
  • Over one lakh people participated in the Ranthambhore Tiger Mela between February 15-19, 2001.
  • The Mumbai Mela - 2001 was held from December 1-3 at Chowpatty where children took an oath: "apna farz nibhayenge, tiger ko bachaenge".
  • In January 2002, Kids for Tigers met the Prime Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee in New Delhi and presented him with 'Save the Tiger' petitions.
  • The Delhi Tiger Fest was held from January 18-21 and Shri T.R. Baalu, Minister for Environment and Forests flagged off the Tiger Express, a float that will travel across the country to spread the conservation message.   • Inter-school tiger fests were held in different cities: Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Patna, Dehradun and Jabalpur.
  • After the Mumbai and Delhi Melas, Kids for Tigers was at Ranthambhore for the Ranthambhore Mela from February 15-19, 2002.
  • Kids for Tigers 'Tiger Ambassadors' chosen from each city participated in Camp Ranthambhore 2002 from February 16-19, where they had the opportunity interact with each other and with the local people and forest guards of Ranthambhore.
  • The Amravati Tiger Rally and Fest was held on February 21, 2002.
  • The Melghat Annual Day was celebrated on March 22, 2002 when children took an oath to Save the Tiger and tied "Tiger friendship bands" on the wrists of forest guards and officers. A Tiger Fest was held in Nagpur on February 24, 2002 and in Chandrapur on February 26, 2002.
  • The Tiger Express visited Chaparala Sanctuary on March 9, 2002, when a special Kids for Tigers Mela was organised with help from the Maharashtra Forest Department.
  • The Tiger Express travelled to Melghat Tiger Reserve and Kids for Tigers slide shows were conducted in several villages in Melghat from April 8-15, 2002.
  • On April 19, 2002, as part of Earth Day activities, Kids for Tigers Delhi organised ECollage, a collage making competition using recycled or waste material only.
  • Four Kids for Tigers 'International Tiger Ambassadors' visited the Kruger National Park in South Africa from May 29-June 4, 2002 on invitation from the South African National Parks Board. The Indian High Commissioner to South Africa met the children and as requested by them, he has officially asked that the Indian World Cup Cricket Team scheduled to play in South Africa in February 2003 adopts the 'Tiger' as its official mascot.
  • On June 24, Kids for Tigers Ambassadors in Delhi met with Director, Project Tiger to discuss how the Tiger Ambassadors could work with Project Tiger.
  • Between June and August 2002, 13 Kids for Tigers Teachers' Workshops were held, in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Nagpur, Amravati, Patna, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Dehradun and Mussoorie and Delhi.
  • Special Slide Shows: On September 9, a show was held at the City Hall in Yawatmal, where kids were invited alongwith parents and teachers.
    On October 7, 2002, a slide show was organised at the Pench Tiger Reserve.
  • During National Wildlife Week, Kids for Tigers conducted a Tiger Mela at Crossroads, Mumbai. Creative workshops and special screenings of the film 'The Tiger's Fortress' were held at Delhi, where children also had the opportunity to meet renowned tiger experts.
  • On October 10, children from Delhi travelled to Patna to join hands with kids at Patna to help save the Valmiki Tiger Reserve. Kids for Tigers met the Bihar Chief Minister Ms. Rabari Devi and RJD supremo Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav to convince them of the urgent need to save tigers.
  • A Save the Tiger Rally was organised at Amravati (November 16, 2002), Patna (November 23, 2002), Nagpur (January 12, 2003).
  • Kids for Tigers Fests were held at Bangalore (November 23, 2002), Amravati (November 24, 2002), Mumbai (December 13-14, 2002), Nagpur (January 12, 2003), Kolkata (January 16, 2003) Chennai (January 18, 2003), Delhi (January 18, 2003), Hyderabad (February 1, 2003), Jabalpur, Dehradun and Mussoorie (February 23, 2003).
  • Mini-melas were held in Chandrapur (December 10, 2002) and Belgaum (February 4. 2003).
  • Kids for Tigers went on Nature Trails: Delhi (April 14, 2002 at the Delhi Zoological Gardens), Bangalore (November 16, 2002 at Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens), Dehradun and Mussoorie (November 17, 2002 to Rajaji National Park), Chennai (November 23, 2002 at Madras Crocodile Bank), Hyderabad (November 24, 2002 to Mrugavani National Park), Kolkata (November 29, 2002 at Nature Study Park), Mumbai (November 23-24, 2002 to Karnala Bird Sanctuary).
  • Kids for Tigers Jabalpur held a workshop and wildlife quiz on November 28, 2002.
  • Regional Nature Camps (December 2002-January 2003): Tadoba (Mumbai, Nagpur, Amravati and Jabalpur), Bhadra (Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore), Corbett (Delhi, Dehradun and Mussoorie), Sundarbans (Kolkata and Patna).
  • On January 22, 2003, Kids for Tigers from 85 schools in Delhi participated in an interactive discussion with the Delhi Chief Minister, Mrs. Sheila Dixit.
  • A Teacher's Workshop was held on February 5, 2003 for teachers from Dehradun and Mussoorie.
  • Tiger Express: From January 22-February 7, the Tiger Express travelled in and around Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve educating villagers and talking to forest guards. On February 8, 2003, the Tiger Express participated in a huge Book Mela at Paratwada, the town nearest to Melghat Tiger Reserve.
  • National Tiger Ambassadors attended the Kids for Tigers Camp at Ranthambhore from February 16-19, 2003. This was followed by a Co-ordinators' Meet to discuss plans for the next year.
  • On February 22, 2003, the 29th foundation day of the Melghat Tiger Reserve, hundreds of kids of Korku tribals visited the Kids for Tigers stall at the Tribal Awareness Mela.
  • Special Slide Shows: At Crossword Bookstore, Mumbai (January 11, 2003), Walking on the Wild Side at St. Stanislaus School, Mumbai (February 25, 2003).
  • On March 7, 2003, Dr. Rajesh Gopal, Director, Project Tiger wrote a letter to Kids for Tigers congratulating them on the large number of signatures earned for 'Save the Tiger' campaigns in different regions. "My colleagues and I are with you all the way in our joint mission to save Panthera tigris," he writes.
  • Teachers' Workshops are being conducted for Kids for Tigers 2003-2004 at all centres across India: Dehradun and Mussoorie (April 8, 2003), Delhi (April 20-21, 2003), Jabalpur, Amravati, Nagpur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Patna, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Sawai Madhopur.
  • Rajesh Gopal, Director of Project Tiger on the occasion of Teachers Day (September 5, 2003) expressed his support and gratitude to teachers all over India.
  • Kids for Tigers and students belonging to the nature club of Cathedral and John Connon Middle School, Mumbai celebrated Teachers’ Day by promising to protect the tiger and its forests.
  • To commemorate National Wildlife Week(October 2003), Sanctuary in collaboration with Crossroads held ‘The Great Wildlife Fancy Dress Party’ on October 5, 2003.
  • A special screening was organised by Sanctuary’s Kids for Tigers programme at the Vatavaran Film Festival 2003.
  • February 21, 2004, Kids for Tigers, Hyderabad organised a Tiger Fest.
  • March 21, 2004,children from Kids for Tigers, Mumbai celebrate World Forestry Day at SanjayGandhi National Park.
  • Kids for Tigers protest against the use of plastic and manage to stop political heads from using it this election. Kids, teachers and principals gather for various other activities.
  • Nagpur kids enjoy birding this summer.

  • March 5, 2005, Kids for Tigers met Honorable Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh at his residence and discuss the current tiger crises.
  • Around 1,500 children from villages around Sawai Madhopur, got together at the Tiger Fest, Ranthambhore, to emerge as an active legion of tiger defenders.
